The “Jesus Shoes” are a custom-designed sneaker based on the Nike Air Max 97, created in 2019 by the Brooklyn art collective MSCHF.
🔹 Key Features
- Holy water soles: The visible Air bubble is filled with water said to be sourced from the Jordan River
- Crucifix detail: A small cross attached to the laces
- Religious inscriptions: Includes Bible verse Matthew 14:25 (Jesus walking on water)
- Premium materials: Wool insoles scented with frankincense
- Colorway: Clean white/silver base for a “heavenly” aesthetic
🔹 Price & Release
- Originally retailed around $1,425 USD
- Extremely limited — about 24 pairs made
- Sold out instantly and now resell for much higher
🔹 Cultural Impact
- Went viral online for blending streetwear + religion
- Sparked debate about art, fashion, and symbolism
- Later inspired MSCHF’s controversial follow-up: the “Satan Shoes”
🔹 Bottom Line
They’re not an official Nike release — more of a luxury art sneaker than a standard product. Highly collectible, rare, and controversial.
